Upload audio and video
You can upload audio and video files. Scribewren sends each file straight from your browser to storage in parts, so a slow connection or a closed tab does not mean starting over.
Add files
Section titled “Add files”-
Go to Home or Library and choose New transcription or Add files.
-
Drop files on the area that says Drop audio or video here, or choose Choose files and select them.
-
Check the hint under the area. It shows how many files you can add at once and the largest size, based on your plan.
The drop area accepts any audio or video file. If a file is not something Scribewren can read, the app says We can’t read that file type. and suggests an audio or video file instead.
What your plan allows
Section titled “What your plan allows”| Free | Unlimited | |
|---|---|---|
| Largest file | 5 GB | 5 GB |
| Longest file | 30 minutes | 10 hours |
| Files at a time | 1 | 50 |
| Transcriptions per day | 3 per day | No daily cap |
If a file is longer than your plan allows, the transcript opens with a notice that only the first part was transcribed, with a See plans link. See Plans and billing.
Follow your uploads
Section titled “Follow your uploads”The Uploads section lists every file you added. Each row shows one of these statuses:
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Waiting to upload | The file is in line. Scribewren uploads a few files at a time. |
| Uploading with a percentage | The file is on its way. |
| Resuming with a percentage | An interrupted upload is continuing where it stopped. |
| Finishing upload | All parts arrived and Scribewren is checking them. |
| Uploaded | Done. The transcription is queued. Choose Open to follow it. |
| Canceled | You stopped this upload. |
| Couldn’t upload | Something stopped the upload. Choose Retry. |
Choose Cancel on a row to stop it. Use the dismiss button on a row to remove it from the list, or Clear finished to remove every finished row at once. Clearing the list does not delete any transcript.
You can move to other pages inside the app while files upload. They keep uploading in the background.
If an upload stops
Section titled “If an upload stops”Choose Retry on the row. The message under the row explains what happened. For an interrupted upload it reads The upload was interrupted. and the hint says Retry to continue where it stopped.
If you refresh the page or close the tab, the browser forgets which file was uploading. Add the same file again and Scribewren resumes it instead of starting from zero.
After the upload
Section titled “After the upload”Once a file is uploaded, the transcription runs on its own. You do not need to keep the tab open. Follow the stages in Transcription statuses, or open the file later from your Library.
Scribewren deletes your original upload within 24 hours after processing ends. The playback copy stays for as long as your plan keeps it. See Account and privacy.
